The Weekly Crossroads: Jan 8, 2026

For this first edition of The Weekly Crossroads in 2026, I look back on my time at the Atlanta Small Business Expo in December.

This was the first time that I have attended an SBE event, which is essentially a roadshow through major business centers throughout the US. From the organization’s website:

“Since 2008, Small Business Expo has helped hundreds of thousands of small business owners and entrepreneurs grow their businesses. With free conferences and business networking events throughout the country, attendees walk away with new connections and knowledge they can’t get anywhere else.”

Throughout the day, I was struck by the positive vibes of attendees, who showed me a lot of poise and professionalism as we communicated (including some very young entrepreneurs).

Within my full download the event, I share four key takeaways which are very important for agencies or consultants that service small business:

  1. Small Businesses need fundamentals before they need the latest “hot tool.”

  2. More than ever before, agencies need their niche to stand out.

  3. Learning how to pitch your business in smaller time intervals is very important.

  4. AI is having a surprising effect on customer search behavior.
